GitUI
Platform information checked 2026-10-27. A supported terminal, Git repository and provider binary or package. Homebrew is needed for the documented Mac command. HTTPS credential.helper must be configured explicitly; a source build has separate Rust and native dependency requirements.
Official app downloads and supported devicesInspect Git changes, stage individual hunks, create commits and browse history through a keyboard-driven terminal interface.
GitUI is MIT-licensed software without a required client subscription. Git hosting, accounts and remote infrastructure are separate. It replaces selected staging, diff and history tasks rather than every GitKraken workflow. The reviewed README lists missing sparse-repository and Git LFS support, and says it does not fully replace the Git shell.

Installation and setup
- Choose a current package or binary from the canonical gitui-org/gitui repository.
- On a Mac with Homebrew installed, the provider documents brew install gitui.
- Open a disposable local repository and start gitui from its folder.
- Use the context help to inspect a diff, stage one change and review the staged result before committing.
- Keep the Git CLI available for unsupported operations. Configure remote credentials separately and review push or reset actions before confirming them.
