Swing Music

Set up your own server · Instructions checked 2026-10-14

1. Install Docker with Compose and prepare the official example using ghcr.io/swingmx/swingmusic:latest.
2. Map your authorized music directory to /music and a persistent configuration directory to /config. Choose SWINGMUSIC_DEVICE_NAME for your server.
3. Keep SWINGMUSIC_PORT and the container/host mapping consistent; the documented default is 1970. Bind to localhost for a local first test.
4. Run docker compose up -d with your prepared file and open http://localhost:1970 for the default mapping. Configure and scan your own library.
5. Test a track you own. Follow the current security and network guidance before making the library remotely reachable.

Steps reviewed against provider documentation, not a claim of installation or execution testing. Swing Music uses AGPL-3.0-or-later and is free to self-host. You supply music you own or have permission to use, plus server resources and storage. It is a personal-library alternative to a streaming subscription workflow, not free access to the Spotify or Apple Music catalogs. The provider also links an Android client, which is a separate app. Native macOS support is not advertised here because current source instructions and roadmap differ; the verified server workflow uses Docker.
