Platform information checked 2026-10-20. OpenSCAD is free GPL-2.0-or-later software with a documented CGAL linking exception. It runs locally without a required subscription, account or cloud server; your computer, storage and manufacturing materials remain separate. It replaces script-driven parametric solid-modeling and export tasks, rather than Fusion’s full interactive CAD/CAM, simulation or collaboration workflow. The official stable release remains 2021.01 while current source development and nightly builds continue. Nightly packages are development builds with different operating-system requirements; their features should not be attributed to the old stable release.
Build repeatable solid 3D parts from scripts, using parameters, constructive geometry and 2D extrusion.

Official distribution and installation documentation reviewed. AltStack did not install or execute the application.
Install on your computer · Instructions checked 2026-10-20
Open the official Downloads page and choose the stable release for your operating system. Stable 2021.01 and development snapshots are separate options. Read the requirements beside the exact package: current snapshots specify macOS 11 or newer and Windows 11 x64, unlike the older stable packages.
Windows: use the matching official installer or unpack the ZIP. macOS: open the selected disk image and install the app. Linux: use the distribution package linked by the provider, such as apt-get install openscad on supported Debian/Ubuntu systems, or its official AppImage for your architecture. Package versions can differ.
Launch OpenSCAD and open a bundled example, or enter a simple object such as cube([10, 10, 10]); in a new model. Save the .scad source and use Preview (F5) to inspect the geometry.
Change a parameter, preview it again, and follow the linked user manual to render and export the intended model format. Check dimensions and geometry before manufacturing. External libraries, downloaded designs and their licenses remain separate from the application.
Provider-documentation review only; no application, installer, downloaded model or candidate repository code was executed.
Design 3D parts and technical drawings with editable dimensions.
Official FreeCAD software and desktop downloads are free for personal, commercial and institutional work. It runs on your own hardware without a required hosted subscription. Optional addons, paid training, professional support and manufacturing services can have separate costs or licenses.
